The Pakistan Business Forum (PBF) has urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to revoke the daily petroleum pricing mechanism, arguing it destabilizes businesses, disrupts economic planning, and burdens consumers. PBF highlighted significant price hikes (Rs. 24/litre petrol, Rs. 60/litre diesel in five days) and arbitrary increases in commodity prices. The forum recommended rationalizing the petroleum levy and reviewing Oil Marketing Companies' margins to provide relief. This policy uncertainty and inflationary pressure could further weaken the Pakistani Rupee and potentially boost local gold demand as a hedge.
