TCP Sugar Export Tender Fails to Attract Bids Amid High Reserve Price

Friday, 02 October 2026 · 07:16 AM PKT · PakGold News Desk · 👁 9

The TCP's tender, aimed at exporting surplus imported white refined sugar, failed to attract any bidders on September 30, 2026. This was primarily due to a reserve price of USD 660 per metric ton, which was substantially higher than the prevailing international market rate of USD 505-515 per metric ton. Despite reducing the earnest money requirement from 10% to 2%, the tender, valued at USD 71.1 million, received no participation. This missed opportunity for foreign exchange earnings could subtly pressure the PKR in the long term, though immediate gold/currency impact is limited.
